Typhoon Rudder ...

Absolutely unbelievable! I have a 1976 Typhoon Weekender (#807) that I bought last November. I spent the whole winter working on her; she was a mess to start with having sat unused in the water for over 13 years. Long story, short and many hours later, she was looking great for the launch yesterday with her hull and brightwork shining and many new components. Today we stepped the mast, hanked on the sails and not 100 feet from the marina, had no steering. NOTHING! The rudder is gone to the bottom and a stump of the shaft remains. I'm assuming electrolysis from the years in the water degraded the metal and the first time under stress she broke. It really wasn't apparent at all when doing bottom work over the winter when being sanded or doing epoxy work.

Bottom line is I'm looking for any leads on a salvage Typhoon that might have a rudder assembly available for sale. You may want to try to get in touch with "Oswego John". He has rebuilt Typhoon rudders in the past any may be able to provide some advice/suggestions regarding the replacement of your rudder. Take a look at this posting:
