The Boston Red Sox

Post by Sea Hunt Video »

I own a Cape Dory sailboat (S/V Bali Ha'i, 1982 CD 25D, Hull No. 0069). She was built in East Taunton, Ma. East Taunton is only a short distance from Boston. Boston is the location of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.

Not sure how we got around to talking about the Red Sox  but as long as we have, my beloved Boston Red Sox open the 2013 season today with a three game series against the hated New York Yankees. :D Hope springs eternal :!:
Fair winds,

Roberto

OJ, the rumor is the curse has been lifted. The Babe purportedly is a Sox fan again after Steinbrenner tore down "the house that Ruth built". That's what I'm going with any way.

So how many ball parks remain that Ruth actually played in?

If anyone asks me how old I am, I just might fib a little. But seriously, I did get to meet Babe Ruth and actually shook his hand.

Back in the early months of World War II, there was a War Bond drive in the locale where I lived. Babe was one of the featured speakers. His voice, as I remember, didn't sound strong and he appeared to be sickly that afternoon. As usual, he was wearing that trademark cap he was always seen to be wearing.

A year or two later the name War Bonds was changed to Victory Bonds. If I remember correctly, a bond cost $12.75 (?) and after 10 years of maturity they could be redeemed for $25.00. It was also possible to purchase War/Victory stamps @ $.10. When a stamp book was filled up, it could be traded for a bond.

Go Syracuse in the Final Four.

I thought we were supposed to avoid subjects like politics and religion on this board. Now you are raising the Yankees and the Red Sox? This is a thread with a very dubious future! Have you seen the cover of this week's New Yorker?

Dear OJ,

Whilst determining what color to paint the bottom of my last Ty, I chose to GO BLUE, not orange.
