recommendations for sailmaker for CD27 main?

Post by yves feder w1ux »

My favorite CT sailmaker (John O'Neill) retired this summer and I'm looking for a recommendation to have a new main made up for our CD27.

Curious if anyone has had any experience with Doyle?

We have a really neat Ulmer main but it's gettin' tired.......:)

Basically looking for someone in MA, RI, or CT......

Thanks for any ideas!
Yves

I got a Stackpack main a few seasons ago and highly recommend it. The draft is cut way forward of what you have on the Ulmer, and reduces wx helm significantly. It's a snap to reef. Comes standard with two reefs; the second reef works fine in 30Kts plus, gusting.

They also made me a 110, a 150 and an 85SF "storm" jib which is a good partner to the double reefed main.

Talk to Chris Howes at Doyle, Marblehead, to make sure they do the tack cutback correctly.

I had a new main made for my CD28 by Kingston Sail Loft out of Kingston, Ontario. I know this isn't in your region but in addition to the very capable sailmakers at KSL, I was able to save a lot of money due to the difference in monetary rates between the Canadian and American dollar. I paid about half of what I was quoted by a well-known sail loft in New York.
