Typhoon outboard motor mount

Post by Carl Reynolds »

I recently bought a Typhoon. I want to put a 2-4 horse motor on it, but even the long shaft motors are too short to submerge the prop. Is this because of a change in motors, or haven't I found the right motor?

Should work fine. Long shaft is pretty much a standard. Obvious from insert section in body. Sure someone didn't mount the board too high on the outboard bracket? Should be pretty much flush with top bolt with just enough wood to bite w/screws.

Our Typhoon has an additional motor mount which looks like a spring loaded parallogram. This allows use of any small OB plus the motor can be raised out of the water when not in use.

A couple of thoughts: 1- Do ypou have the original Bronze Motor Bracket that came with the boat? If you do, are you putting it on correctly? It should go with the flat part of the bkt down. It would be very easy to install this bracket either way. The wood part of the bracket should be lower than the transom. If it is install correctly it should work with a 20" shaft. You can check the lenght of your engine by measuring from where the engine mounts on the boat to the cavitation plate. Depending on the motor you may have two plates. I hope you find this information helpful
