Cape Dory 30 Cutter for sale: Outfitted, Ready to Cruise

Post by Kyheinze »

Don't spend years fixing up a boat--BEATRICE is ready to cruise!
BEATRICE is a 1982 cutter with a new Beta Marine 20hp diesel installed in 2010! She is outfitted for cruising: extreme ground tackle and good sail wardrobe, solar panels, wind generator, Cape Horn wind vane steering system, rig almost entirely brand new in 2009, 2 new house batteries and 1 new starter battery (2012), new battery charger (2012), a Portland Pudgy dinghy (USCG approved lifeboat: has inflatable canopy, sea anchor, & sailing rig) on teak chocks between mast & traveler, para-anchor, bulkhead mounted diesel Dickinson heater, 3 burner propane stove & oven, USCG approved Air Head environmental toilet, all LED lights: running & cabin, and much more!
We have sailed BEATRICE to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Grenada, and we lived aboard for about 4 years.
We had a baby last June, so we need a bit more space!
She is currently at Colton's Point Marina on the lower Potomac and is listed on the Washington, DC craigslist for $30,000 if you want to check out that ad.

I just joined this site. I am looking for a Cape to buy. I looked at Ky's boat. I was very impressed. Ky is a nice guy, and he and his wife have made a bunch of great improvements. I really wanted to seriously consider his boat, and the only reason I cannot is that I am just too big at 6ft 5in. I want to live aboard, but I would need a double leg or single head amputation. I would consider either, but then it would be difficult to make the boat payments. I want also to thank Ky for his time explaining and showing his boat. Someone (slightly smaller?) is going to get a really nice boat.

I am not sure any of the bunks are 6'5" long in any Cape Dory. I think mine in my 31 is 6'2.5" unless you sleep diagonally in the pull out double berth in the salon. Maybe someone who has a 36 or a 40 will respond with their size measuremnts of their berths for you.

lol, I was not expecting a full 6 5. At least the pilot on a 33 or 36 I cold hang my dogs over the end, lol. I forgot to mention, I want to teach my 3 kids to sail as well. I need fighting room below for the 2 girls. one in a pilot and one in a vee might give enough space to keep the bleeding to a minimum.

Vincent,

I am 6' 4" and have a CD30. I sleep diagonally in the V berth and I can stretch out fully like that. It is certainly not ideal and it does not leave my wife a lot of room. We use the boat about 70 days/year and it is fine for this but I don't think that I would want to live aboard it like that. When my father joins us, he sleeps in the pullout double which is much bigger than the V berth but I am too lazy to pull it out all the time. The way our boat is configured, I could actually cut out a footwell under the stove and lengthen the port birth if necessary but I don't feel the need.

It can be done, it just depends on what your definition of comfort is.

Hi Vince,
Thanks for your message. It was good to meet you. I hope your search is going well.

And hello to the rest of you,
If anyone is interested, I have a list of items that come with or are on the boat and a set of about 40 pictures. Just send me an email address, and I'll pass them along.
Best,
Ky
