What Nationals are they talking about on June 22-24? Robert Downs
Re: Ty Daysailers - List of Known Models K and Gs
Model K, hull 133 that NE Sailboat Rescue sold is across from my boat on Lake Murray, SC. Lovely boat owned by the Kirkley's.

It is the Typhoon Nationals that are held in the VA area on the Rappahannock River. The race was in June last year, but will be in September this year. There is a very strong presence of Tys in this area so that makes it a very cool race for anyone that is interested in Typhoons.rddowns1961 wrote:What Nationals are they talking about on June 22-24? Added Typhoon Model G #52.
Larry also has Typhoon Fever, now owning two of them
I've said it before and I'll say it again; Its hard to own too many Cape Dorys.

Re: Ty Daysailers - List of Known Models K and Gs
I have known that the paperwork for my Typhoon is not correct. I did not know that when I bought the boat from a dealer near Lake Champlain. My hull ID # is CPOK0060M81 (Please note that CPO not CPD is not my typo.) This VIN looks like it belongs to one of the K boats on the list. I have done an on line seach using what should be the correct VIN for my Typhoon. I included stollen and missing boats. Results were negative. I could use suggestions as how to fix this. I think my boat number 1771. I will verify the boat number tomorrow. The posted K&G list has prompted me
to readdress my VIN problem.

- HINs are 12 digits, whereas the one that you provided is only 11 digits in length. It appears the last digit is missing, which for boats made before 1984 would be the month it was certified.
- Your boat appears to be made in 1981 (based on digits 10 and 11)
- Also it appears to be a Model K, hull # 60 (based on digits 4 thru 8)
- Regarding why CPO, rather than CPD, perhaps paint rounded the D??
K #60 was noted in my original post as being in MA. Any chance yours is the same boat?

You may also want to check the upper starboard transom area for the complete hull number (12 digits). It is my recollection it was "stamped" into the hull in that area on most, if not all, Cape Dory sailboats. On my Ty Weekender it was clearly identifiable. If a lot of sanding and/or fiberglass work has been done on the stern it may no longer be visible.

Re: Ty Daysailers - List of Known Models K and Gs
Tstec,
I read your post from some time back (http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33591), and am now confused as to what type of Ty you have. Is it the Weekender (Model D) that has a full cuddy, a small v-berth, and a 8" port on each side of the cuddy (which would not agree with the HIN we have been discussing), or is is a Model K that has a small cuddy (no ports) that is for storing gear, but not something anyone in their right mind would crawl into to sleep (which arguably no one in their right mind would sleep on the Model D Weekender either but I have done it with 2 kids and a large dog).
Also I am at a loss as to the boat number 1771 that you have referenced on a few occasions. Where is that coming from?
A pic or two would help.

My boat is a Typhoon weekender not a day sailer. The number on my boat's Cape Dory builders plate is 1771.
