I noticed that my CD25 has an eye strap on the forward face of the mast at the same height as the spreaders. There's nothing attached to it. There are a couple of other CDs at the marina where "Star" is kept, also with such an "unoccupied" piece of hardware. However, there is one CD25 that has a rather small block on a swivel attached to the eye strap with a halyard/line running down along the mast. This particular vessel has another halyard for raising a pennant or such. I haven't had the opportunity yet to speak to the owner to determine its true purpose. It's too light a fitting to support a baby-stay, so I suspect the halyard setup is correct, but for raising what? Can anybody shed light on this mystery for me? Thanks in advance.
Best regards. John

Re: Eye strap on front of mast
Could the eye strap be used for a spinnaker pole topping lift?

Re: Eye strap on front of mast
John,
Did your CD25 ever have a club boom for the jib or was it an option for that model? If so, she would have needed a club topping lift.
We have a cutter rigged CD32 and the inner staysail is clubfooted. The hardware for the staysail's topping lift is located where you described the eyestrap or padeye location on your boat.

Re: Eye strap on front of mast
Thanks to Catherine and "John M" for the suggestions. Don't know if she was ever rigged with a club footed jib or if she ever flew a spinnaker . . . the latter is particularly possible since I know she was raced and there's a track on the forward face of the mast (presumably for the spinnaker/whisher pole). Again, thank you both for responding to my query. Best regards. JohnJohn L. Reizian wrote: I noticed that my CD25 has an eye strap on the forward face of the mast at the same height as the spreaders. Re: Eye strap on front of mast
On Sostenuto the eye you refer to is used for the topping lift for the spinnaker pole.
