burgee too!!! yeah
A Non denominational burgee? Absolutely. Any of us could, I guess, get this made up -- but an order in numbers is always cheaper.

Re: "Bronze" plate - you can use mine
Catherine - I had removed my plaque a few weeks ago to do a minor repair job. I have it sitting on my desk at home. I would be happy to offer it for your use as I would also like to get two new ones made up. (one for the boat and one for the half-hull model I am making of her).
FYI - I would suggest you request mounting screws with the new plaques. The heads of the soft brass or bronze screws which were used to mount my original plaque suffered a bit during the removal process. Other may have a similar problem.
Drop me a line if you would like to use it.

We've been asked to let Bristol Bronze cast a new one from our plaque but I've been reluctant to remove it from the boat. I guess if enough Cape Dorians would like to replace their plastic plaque with a bronze one, I'll send it to them to be cast. Cape Dorians could then place their orders for new ones from Bristol Bronze.

Re: "Bronze" plate
Hi Catherine,
Please count me in also for a bronze plate if an order for several is to be generated. Comes time to send in a deposit, let me know.
Great to see so much interest in this!!! The boat deserves a real bronze plaque:)

Count me in on the bronze plate.
On second thought, my CD will be 25 next year, can I get one in silver?

Re: "Bronze" plate
catherine,
count me in for one for my ty.
about four years ago i was in an automotive store and they had license plate size castings with various inscriptions on them, i.e
"harley-davidson", "philadelphia eagles", etc. hanging on the wall. i asked the owner if they were special order/special made and can singles be made. he showed me a brochure of the various things you could get on the plate. one was a sailboat (full keel no less). i had the sailboat set on the left side (about 1/3 the width) and the words "cape dory" stacked on top of each other to fill the center and right portion. in pennsylvania we only have a rear license plate so i put this on the front of my tow vehicle truck. most people ask where cape dory is located and is it a nice place. it cost $22.00 to have it custom made then so you shouldn't be looking at too outrageous a price especially if they will be doing quantity.

Re: All Shield product report or question.
Contact New Found Metals who sells the All Shield. They will inform you in detail that the product has excellent durability but that the problems occur in application because of a shelf life problem with the catalyst (after opening) resulting in gelling and compromised product application.Tom wrote: At the beginning of the summer I found a product I think on this board, bought some and gave it a try. It's called All Shield and is something you put on your stainless and other metals and it's supposed to keep them from corroding for 5 years. I followed the instructions and put on three coats. After three months my stainless looks the worst it ever has. Has someone else used this stuff and got good results? Is there some trick about applying it or something? I did a test and used it on one side and not on the other. The side that it wasn't used on has much less rust than the side it was used on. In my test this product actually promoted rust spots faster than leaving the stainless untreated except for polish. The one place it has worked well is on the brass plate over the companionway that says Cape Dory and has the boat number on it. Of course, that's semi-inside being under the dodger and covered when the hatch is closed. Why would they even try to market a product that works worse than nothing? Am I missing something here?

SS Passivation
The nitric acid passivation process has been replaced by more environmentally friendly methods, not eliminated.
For example, check out Citrisurf 77 from Stellar Solutions. It actually comes in a quart spray bottle and is environmentally sound and safe to use (I'd recommend eye protection and possibly rubber gloves, though). It can be sprayed on your parts and washed off with a hose. It should remove the surface rust and initiate the passivation process again. See http://www.enteract.com/~stellar/solution/citacid.htm
for more information.
Two things are especially effective in destroying the passivation: leaving the stainless in contact with iron (tools, steel wool, or nails), and exposing it to acids containing sulfur compounds i.e. acid rain.
Hope this helps.

Is there any way we power boaters can get in on this. We don't have anything.

Re: "Bronze" plate
Hey, I thought you guys were kidding! Then I went to 'KARMA' this weekend after a three week hiatus, and looked at my plaque; then I looked again, only closer... then closer...yikes! It's plastic too!!!
Count me in for 'genuine bronze'....

Re: "Bronze" plate
So, have we all convinced Catherine that she has to take that nice bronze plate off her beloved Cape Dory and send it in for mold making? I sure hope so. What say you Catherine?
