I would like to try to restore the weathered teak on our CD28. Has anyone had any success in this area and if so, how did you do it and which products did you use?

Get a copy of "Brightwork: The Art of Finishing Wood" by Rebecca J. Wittman. Most of the big book chains (and of course Amazon.com), as well as many boat stores that carry books, have it in stock. It's the best and most complete guide to boat wood care. I know from experience that Ms. Wittman's methods work.

DITTO. This is a great book. The "Teak Bible" if you will. Ours is worn, dog eared, and passed around. In fact I am off to retrieve it because we have begun work now on our second Cape Dory "Hesperus" CD 30 #242

There are many used editions of this book that are available. Try bibliofind.com and get one for half price.

Thanks for all the advice. I know what I'll be studying this winter!

I bought Rebecca's book through my local library. I paid for it (40% off) and they let me check it out first. Wonderful book, nice pictures, but I decided that I didn't really want to make varnish my life. On the exterior I've gone to BoatUS TeakCoat. It's only been a couple of months but it still looks like the day I put it on. It took three coats and I used the gloss finish which does not need a flat coat first. You just use the gloss. It requires no sanding between coats and goes on quickly and easily. I also think that it looks much better than Cetol. This is a subjective area, but if this stuff holds up I'm set for life. I want her to look good but I really want to sail. This product let me get good looks in a short time. You may want to consider this. Good luck whichever way you decide!
