I guess I have the 'no frills' model 1976 cd 28 (hull #81). It's a great boat and I go everywhere in it. My last cruise lasted 6 weeks and I was aboard for some wet rainy nights...and the cheap plastic ports leak and need rebedding. After removing one of them, I have decided to replace them...they are in bad shape and not worth the work of reconditioning. I would like to replace them with some kind of metal ports. I can't afford the nice Spartan bronze ports like most CDs have ... and the cutouts are not the right shape. So I am looking for reccommendations on ports. I have seen Lewmar and Beckson...are there any others than anyone can reccommend? Thanks!

Re: ports
Paul, I don't have an answer for your port problem, but it is interesting that two guys from Hackettstown High ended up with CD 28's. Mine is Alchemy, hull#289 at Cambridge, MD. Try the used gear places in Annapolis, or some of the bigger boatyards. Good luck.

Re: ports
I would suggest you look at ABI. They have a range of stainless opening ports that are excellent. I replaced plastic ports with ABI stainless on an early owner-completed Crealock 37. You can check out ABI's offering in their catalogue at any West Marine store. You can't order directly from ABI because they're manufacturers; West will order for you, or you might be able to work a better price through a local yard or rigger. Good luck. P.S. Buy a good rasp. Cabin side cutouts almost always need modification.

Re: ports
try Newfound Metals in Washington state. They advertise in the sailing magazines. They are more reasonable in price than Spartan for their bronze ports. Re: ports
www.newfoundmetals.com. I believe the shape of their ports would require more extensive reshaping of the Cape Dory standard cutout.
