Fresh water flush

Post by CFFrank35 »

We’re tired of the funky smell generated by the brackish waters of the Hudson and the contents of our holding tank. A friend recommended we flush with fresh water and it seems to work. We are now considering plumbing our portside fresh water tank to our Raritan PHII head. Has anyone out there completed such a project?

Regards

Make sure you isolate the water tank from the rest of the system to prevent cross contamination. Back flow could cause the entire crew to get sick. We flush with fresh water but use the shower head to fill the bowl.

I did it back in December, and it has been great. What a big difference. I decided to replace the original holding tank in my 1983 CD30. When I had things out, I used the space behind the Vberth step and in front of the holding tank to put a small 9 gallon fresh water tank. I plumbed it straight to the head. The water is only used for the head. Since the holding tank only holds about 18 gallons, I know roughly two fillings of the fresh water flush equals pump out time. I fill it through the same inspection plate where the holding tank viewport is. I just run a water hose through the forward hatch for this.

Or... you can do it the easy way. Just pour a few cups of water from the sink into the bowl after using! I never seem to do things the easy way.
