Need advise ! I have to have a new motor, What shall I get?? I had a Honda 15 hp 4 stroke, problem with the exhust wanting to choke it off. Is there any other motor out there that preformes as well but has a better exhust system ???? Tell me what you think or have experienced. Thanks

Jan, You didn't mention what model you are asking about but I,m going to assume that it's the 25. The problem with exhaust choking the engine is an old one and has been the subject of many posts on this board. Use the search button and you will come up with extensive threads on the subject. Your engine is probably fine you just have to take some action to get the exhaust out of the compartment. I ran a 25 with a 15 hp Johnson for 20 years. I fixed the problem by routing the exhaust out of the compartment and was able to run the engine all day with the hatch closed. Don't buy that new engine just yet. Everything I've heard says the Honda is a fine engine.

Sounds like you have a CD26? (I don't think a 15hp Honda will fit most CD25's.) Maybe John Churchill's previous boat? As Jerry said this is a common problem on CDs with outboard motorwells, but easily solved by either running with lazerette open partically, rerouting the secondary-exhaust out bottom of motorwell, venting the outboard engine cover or a combination of these. Don't scrap that Honda yet, they are good engines. As Jerry mentioned check old messages for more on the subject.

Jan,

There are two sides to this old coin. You can get the exhaust away from the intake, or get the intake away from the exhaust. Most efforts have been focused on the former. You may want to explore the possibility of ducting a fresh air supply into the motor rather than ducting the exhaust out. Consider a tailpiece/throughull installed backwards high into the well that would draw air from the cockpit locker space. A flexible/detachable hose could then run from that tailpiece to another similar tailpiece/fitting mounted on the engine's cover. The original engine air intakes would have to be plugged off somehow (epoxy?). This would ventilate the cockpit lockers and ensure fresh air for the engine. The well would fill up with CO, but it wouldn't matter. The engine wouldn't breath it, as it would be getting its clean air piped in.
