Hi,
I am looking for some comparisons and strength and weaknesses between the Alberg 37 and the Cape Dory 36. I love both of these boats and more than likely will be a proud owner of an A37 yawl in a couple of weeks and would just like some insight from the CD folks.
thanks much!

Re: C.D. 36 VS ALBERG 37
We have a friend with an Allberg 37, and two with CD36's. I also have a friend who is or was head of the National Allberg 37 Owners Association. I also love both of these boats, and both could be a future boat for me also.
That said..I would highly advise that you tlak with the National Allberg 37 association, and ask for a copy of their list of recommended repairs, updates and improvements. This list is what is recommended that you do or have done before taking the boat out into trying conditions. The list is fairly arduous; Adding longitudinal reinforcement to the forward hull area to prevent 'oil canning' in waves and seaway (this consists of foam logs fiberglassed to the hull itself..from bow to stern. This assumes a lot of cabinetry has been removed). THere are several other improvements, but this one was the hardest, but if the boat you are looking at has not had this done yet, I would investigate the situation. There may be year models where the modification was not needed.
The CD36 does not require any of this quality of reworking to get her to ocean capable. She was built as ocean capable,a nd with the addition of the equipment of your choice, it should suffice.
We have two A37's in our area, and I always 'take a moment' to watch them as they glide by in such regal beauty and charm. Positively lovely boat. Good Luck with whatever your purchase becomes..but do check on the associations recommendations etc. before deciding.
Cheers!
