Repowering a CD33 or CD330
We would like to hear from anyone who has repowered a CD33 0r CD330.
Specifically:
1) What engine / transmission did you go with?
2) When was it done?
3) Are you satisfied / dissatisfied with the results?

Re: Repowering a CD33 or CD330
We did not "repower" but rebuilt the original M-30 over the winter. Given the limited use our engine gets we figured the 50% cost savings over the repower was justification. We removed and reinstalled the engine ourselves, and transported it to/from Hansen marine for the work. We also avoided having to modify the engine mounts and just refurbished/reinforced the existing. I would be happy to share the results and experience if your interested in going that route.

Hi. My CD33 was repowered by a Beta 28. Not sure of the transmission. I am very satisfied with this engine.
Good luck,

Re: Repowering a CD33 or CD330
We repowered our CD33 with a Yanmar 3YM30 that came with a Hurth 2.62:1 transmission. The changeover was messy. The metal engine mount had to be ground out. We had wooden stringers glassed in for engine mount. We had the work done by engine and fiberglass professionals. Took the opportunity to install a dripless shaft seal. We had to replace our de-zinced prop but the diesel mechanic estimated exactly on target.
It was done 5 or 6 years ago. Fortunately, I don't remember what it cost but I do know how great it has been ever since. Our previous Universal which had repeatedly broken engine mounting bolts had corroded through the bottom of the engine block and was dripping oil. Repairing was out of the question.

Beta 28 Questions
Reid,
What modifications did you have to make to accommodate the Beta 28? I assume a new engine bed was required. Did you have to change the wet locker or anything like that?

Tom and Jean:
I am sorry but do not have any info on that as the repower was done by the prvious owner. You could call Sailcraft Service in Oriental, NC and ask to speak with Alan (owner of the yard where the repower was done). He should be able to tell you all about this. I don't have the telephone number, but just google it.
Best of luck,
