WANTED - Ty Daysailer (Model K, not Weekender)

Post by mashenden »

I am interested in getting back into a Typhoon. While I loved sailing my Weekender a couple of years back, this time I am partial to the Daysailer model.

Points I am considering:
  • Boat has to be the K model - CPDK... (with the small storage cuddy, but not the Weekender). I know, I know - The cockpit is not self bailing!
  • A fair price for the condition. In other words, I would entertain "cheap that needs work" or "higher asking price if in good shape", but I'd have to say I am not interested in the "Bristol/top dollar" variety. Too rich for my blood :).
  • No need for a trailer or motor - I have both of those, but if part of a package, then so be it.
  • Boats beyond my home port near Richmond, VA are a consideration, but obviously the closer, the better... and more likely to justify a trip to take a look.
If anyone has a Ty that matches this entirely too wordy criteria, then PLEASE let me know. I can assure you the boat would go to a caring owner. My plans are to get back into racing - The Ty Nationals are in this area.

Check Craigslist for Detroit, MI. There's one in Ann Arbor, MI with trailer that sounds promising. Ad was placed 15 April and still up.

Thank you to all that responded thus far.

The Ty in Maine would be the "Bristol/top dollar" type that I mentioned as being out of my league.

The Ty in MI is the wrong model - it is the Daysailer model G (fully open), not the model K (small cuddy). Cool photo in the lily pads, though.

Re: the Ty in Connecticut, I was not able to get into the photos using the links provided here but found another post that had working links http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... er#p127266. VERY NICE and probably worth every penny, but sadly more than I have budgeted (unless a CD-10 would be valued at $3000 in a trade. It has a rebuild transom, new teak rub rails, good sail and related hardware, and a new galvanized trailer).

Thanks Gary. I was tracking that auction... and now find myself being the winner . Now I have 2 Weekenders and a Daysailer (and my CD-10), thus proving a guy cannot have too many CDs.

The price was right on all 3 - If anyone wants a Weekender, please let me know. I will all but give away the Weekender of the two that I just won on e-bay in NJ, Toms River (less a winch). It is a 1970. I have yet to see her, but the pictures indicate a lot of dirt, a paint peeling problem at the waterline that looks to be mostly cosmetic and the same on the interior. Some elbow grease, new shrouds and a winch and she should be ready to go (but again, I have yet to see her).

Make me an offer. Must be willing to move it quickly, preferably the weekend of May 5th.

The latest update, in case it is of any interest (probably not)...

Recap: I bought a Weekender, "MOCO", in April out of RI because I could not find a Daysailer and wanted... NEEDED a Typhoon for the Summer. A month later an auction surfaced on E-Bay for 2 Typhoons in NJ. One Daysailer and one Weekender. I won the auction. Yeay, Gasp. At that point my Ty count was at 3. In June, I gave one away since I did not want to spend another weekend traveling, loading and towing yet another boat.

After fixing up a few things that MOCO needed, a friend and I sailed her in the Ty National race. MOCO did very well in our first race - placed 2nd. And we were very encouraged in the other races at how well the boat pointed. Clearly a competitive boat.

Last week I realized it was time to focus on putting in a new cockpit floor into the Daysailer, so MOCO went on the market at a very respectable price. The lowest priced Ty on the market :) In total, 4 people were interested, and she sold to the first Captain. Honestly, I was kinda hoping she would take a month or so to sell, but I am glad to report she went to a good family of boaters and that she will remain in the general area (reloed to the Piankatank River).

And then there was 1 :)
