Recently purchased a CD 26 and am taking off the Aries wind vane. Looking for suggestions on a ladder. What type and where to place it?

Cannot help with the ladder, but was wondering if you are selling the Aries? I might be interested. Write me if you are selling please.

Jan - Just an interesting idea for your consideration, which may have come from a previous post on this board. The best precautions when sailing solo is to not go over the side, but if you do then you need a method of deploying the ladder from the water. One suggestion is to use a moderate weight fishing line to secure the ladder. Then use a heavier line, which could be reached from the water, to snap the fishing line and deploy the ladder.

Larry beat me to an offer, but I'll up the ante: wanna swap it for a stock CD-27 stern ladder complete in nice condition?

_______________

We have tried a number of ladders with our former boat. We swim off the boat a lot and need a reliable means for reboarding in a seaway.
So when we bought our CD26 we had a ladder installed on the stern. It is the same as those sold optional for the CD25D. You can see ours at the web address below. The CD dealer could have been installed on the transom just a bit lower (8") but works fine. They did not want to block the transom name but it would have made the bottom rung even with the back stern rail...also a bit lower into the water. You can also see in on my CD25D page , accessible from the CD26 page. Never regretted having this inlieu of the portable....This ladder, I believe, is available from the same supplier to Cape Dory who also made the life line stansions. I believe they have the pattern, etc. Address is on the vendor list on the CCDA main page....

Teak Ladder Treads

Post by John Nuttall »

Not exactly on subject, but I am looking for a source of teak ladder treads to add to my boarding ladder. I have checked the usual sources to no avail. Any suggestions?

Jan- you might consider adding these, as the bare stainless rungs are slippery under bare feet.

I contacted topsinquality.com. They sell treads for $13.50 to $15 depending on length.

Hi John,

I found, in the current BoatUS catalog, what I think is the tread we installed on our CD28 several years ago (1996?). Try Garelick/Eez-in,

www.garelick.com

The BoatUS catalog only show's the poly-tread, not the teak-tread. However, you could make your own teak tread or contact Garelick and see if they offer a teak option. Let me know if you have any questions.
