manifold valve located by galley sink plumbing

Post by marybeth taylor »

I have recently taken ownership of a CD 30 cutter and noticed a faucet/valve located under the galley sink alond side the piping for my pressure water system. I'm assuming that it's a supply for my fresh water cooled diesel. But before I go turning things left and righ/on and off, I was hoping for an explanation. Can anyone give this mechanically-challenged sailor a hand?

Marybeth,
No, that is not the engine water intake.. not unless your Cd30 is different than mine..and it certainly could be, so some caution is needed before you follow this exactly.

The engine cooling seacock is to the left of the engine, looking aft. Follow the black hose up to the lower cooling water intake fitting on the transmission housing.

Under the galley sink, you have the waste water piping for the sink, which consists of a cross piece, most likely brass, that connects the two sink drains together. Coming off the left sink drain and going straight down is a 2 1/2in. black hose. This goes into a large seacock, and provides a positive means of keeping water out of the boat should that hose part. I think that this is what you see. This should be open when the galley is in use, but closed otherwise, as the water level is just below the sink basket..and could get the boat wet should something unforseen happen to the hose or the connections.

If you would like, e-mail me directly amd I will try to help with other questions you might have. One way to find out what the various pieces of plumbing are for is to follow their hoses to their destinations. Another is to look in the manual (if you were lucky enough to get one with the boat..if not, I can get copies made, and I do believe someone has the manual scanned and available).

Lastly, congrats on buying a great boat!!

How many water tanks do you have? It might select between tanks, or be a takeoff to a hand or foot pump in the galley.
