sailing dory

Post by carla »

hello, everyone,

i just found this bulletin board from a search progam, and i hope its alright for me to put this query here..........

we have a sailing dory we're thinking about offering to sell, cos we just don't seem to have time to put it in the water and use it.

in the mid-1980's, my partner's father, bill gibbons of petaluma, built a few dories as a bit of a retirement business, after going to sea many years as a sparkie, then working marine radio traffic for a shore station, kph.

we have one of his dories, a 20' "st. pierre" pattern, which was built with a retractable heavy steel centre-board, a single mast, and a well aft for an outboard engine.

its very high quality and strongly built, as old bill was really meticulous in his work......details like teak frames on close centres, a very high standard of fit and finish, etc., etc.

i don't know what it weighs, but its very heavy for its size, patterned, so the story goes, after the dories used in the cod fishery by the fellows from st. pierre and miquelon.......allegedly capable of working out in the open ocean with a ton or so of fish on board.

this one is still in very nearly "as new" condition, cos its only been in the water four or five times since it was built.....its been sitting for years now, tarped over, on its trailer in our back yard.

we're in process of sanding and re-painting the nicks, scrapes, etc., but those are quite minor, and the hull would survey 100 pct. sound.

the mast, boom, and sails are stored in our attic, and are still as new,
and the 6hp british seagull engine has been kept in dry storage.

could someone put me in touch with someone in the bay area who could give me any idea of what the dory might be worth, if a dory like this would be considered desirable, and where i could post a notice for it??????

thank you

cheers

Carla:
Site "http://www.trailersailor.com" would be the most appropriate.

Good luck..
