Oh, sheet!

Post by sfreihofer »

I need sheets... jib, genoa, and main. The problem is, I don't know what lengths I need for a CD25, and I can't find any guidance in the archives.

If anyone knows how much rope I need to buy, please let me know. This is just about the very final task in the reconstruction of S/V Pearl.

Thanks for your help...

West Marine used to have formula with diagram in their catalog to determine sheet lengths ..........in the line section. Or contact your rigger

For the main: X= mechanical advantage times distance from the boom fully extended to the traveler + about 15-20 feet working line.

For Jib or Geona: 2X the distance from the furler to the cockpit + about 15-20 feet working line.

Any thing less than 5/8" diameter is hard on the hands.

Sheets

Look at the on line manual
I know that the length is there for 25d and typhoon because I have used it in the past
If you cannot find 25, you should be close with the 25d measurements
You might add 2 feet or so to each just to be safe
The diameter is also there

From the CD Manual: http://www.capedory.org/manuals/Ty-Ty%2 ... 30-30K.pdf

On page 94 I see the following:

3/8"x70' Main halyard
3/8"x73' Jib halyard
7/16"x66' Main sheet
7/16"x50' Jib sheet
7/16"x35' Genoa sheet
1/4"x60' Topping Lift

Hope this helps.

If it's not too much trouble, Ben, I would be much more comfortable with the actual measurements, rather than trying to extrapolate from the CD25D. I would really appreciate it.

It's a start...

My jib/genoa sheet is 60' of sta-set 3/8" (might be 7/16"). I use the same sheet for both... I folded the line in half and tied a figure eight on the bight, which leaves a short loop that I run a clip through. I don't have to run new sheets if I change sails. Just unclip and reclip at the clew.

The main sheet is on the boat, and I didn't make it out there tonight.... It doubles as the line for the block and tackle used in lowering/raising the mast... and still in that assembly. I would guess the main sheet is not as long, more like 45'... I'll let you know.

My holding tank project will have to wait till spring. Time to button up all the toys. Made an outboard rack in the basement tonight.... remove teak, cover, and wait for snow.
