My CD25 came with a UK asymetrical spinnaker known as a "flasher". I have looked at the UK web site which gives basic instructions for flying it. Does anyone have any helpful hints or horror stories?
thanks

Need helpful hints for UK asymetrical spinnaker

Re: Need helpful hints for UK asymetrical spinnaker
the head of the sail should have a double swivel to prevent the head from twisting on itself. the tack should have a downhaul line to adjust the height of the tack off the stemhead fitting. the luff of the sail may have one or two hanks to attach it to the headstay.
the closer you sail to the wind the closer the tack should be to the stemhead fitting. the clew should generally be higher than the tack.
when running or broad reaching ease the tack up from the stemhead fitting about three feet and ease the halyard so the head of the sail is away from the mast - this allows it to fly more like a symmetrical spinnaker. to gybe the sail, as you turn to dead downwind ease out
the sheet so the sail flys free in front of the headstay to the opposite of the boat as you complete the gybe and trim the sail in with the new sheet.
this is a great sail for a beam reach to a broad reach. you have to wing and wing for a dead run which can get tricky unless you put a preventer on the mainsail boom.
happy sailing!

I have just ordered the Flasher for my cd30mkII...I have talked to the local guru and it seems pretty easy to sail especially compared to the standard spinneker which requeries boom guys and all the rest. I found their sales sheet very helpfull both on how to rig and to handle. Good luck I'm looking foreward to getting mine soon!!!

Tom,
We've been using the UK Flasher on our CD32, Realization since 1996. It's relatively easy to setup and to set. Though my husband and I do fly it on our own, we do find it easier if there's a 3rd person onboard.
Click here for a look at our Flasher. I do wish someone would get a photo of us while we we're flying it, it is very difficult to photograph from your own boat.
