Hood Stoboom

Post by Jim Newton »

Does anyone have any experience with Stobooms? I just purchased a CD30 with main roller furling and I'm have some problems that I believe are related to the angle of the boom to the mast. (What is the proper angle?) While both furling and unfurling, the main sail often gets stuck. Taking down the main is not a quick process, it doesn't simply drop, it needs to be "rolled" in using the line driver. I get conserned that in an emergency it might take too long. Any thoughts, suggestions?
Thanks

I see no one has replied to your inquiry so I thought I might recommend you contact Hood directly and see what they can advise you. I'm sure they will guide you on the proper angle that you refer to. We have a Hyde Streamstay roller furler on our CD30 main and it furls and unfurls well, Your Hood should also.

The proper leading of the furling line is very important for quick and easy furling no matter what kind of system is being used. Our main stows behind the mast as opposed to yours stowing in the boom. Our furling line could be lead better than it currently is but it suffices. We have Hood furling systems on both the staysail and genoa and all contact I've had with the people at Hood has always been very good. They should be able to guide you through the problem.
