How is forward limber hole supposed to work in CD 36 ??

Post by Russell »

There is a limber hole underneath our V berth, where in the compartment where the holding tank was. It seems like this ought to carry water there to the bilge. (Water might get there from the rode locker.) Instead, this tube seems to go nowhere. Any water in this space immediately flows into a storage compartment in the notch of the V berth, where the depth transducer is located, and then onto the sole aft. How should this limber hole work? Is the depth transducer somehow blocking a route below the sole?

Any advice much appreciated!

We have had the same problem. In our case there is a water tank under the V-berth, which vents to the chain locker, so we frequently get water in there. I am assuming that your depthsounder is located midline, through the limber tube, as ours is. In our case the temporary solution this summer was to drill between the bow compartment and the storage compartment on either side of midline, then to drill diagonally downward in the midline from the aft end of that storage compartment into the bilge. This helped some but is a temporary solution to the problem - we still have a small amount of water under the V-berth and oozing through the floorboards, and the compartments are still damp. The permanent solution is yet to be determined, with the boat out of the water this fall, but will include adding ventilation through the aft walls of both compartments.
Hope this helps.
