OK folks, four out of the five 30 year old Datamarine electronics onboard have ceased working. The wind direction never worked but at least it kept up appearances, the wind speed finally croaked two seasons ago, the speedo just broke a paddle wheel . I guess thirty years has just been too much for them! The depth sounder, complete with tin foil inside preventing the alarm from sounding ad nauseum, is the only thing left, thank the Christ! It is the most important device of any of them to me.
In upgrading, I would like a simple but somewhat separate system focused on a high quality sounder. What brands and models have good reliability? Though I like the Raymarine displays, I do not need a networked system.
People who have upgraded their electronics, what are you recommending these days? This would probably be a fall or spring project.
Thanks in advance.

Take a look at Moore Electronics, Albany, NY. made in USA. Engineers available with a phone call.
I have replaced wind speed/direction and depth with their units and have used their stuff on other boats with satisfaction. They aren't fancy but they do the job. I think Defender and Hamilton Marine carry them.

I went with Raymarine
I've been very happy with the Raymarine instruments.. Here's an old post of mine that explains the choice and how I installed the instruments.
