Can anyone enlighten me to the differences in CD-25's in various model years (73, 74, 75, 76, 77 are of particular interest). There are boats for sale quite nearby of 73, 74, and 75 vintage. Further away are some 76, 77, 78. Any important changes, improvements, etc that I should be aware of.

History of the Cape Dory 25
It began in 1968 as the Allied Greenwich 24, a 24' 3" foot sloop designed by George Stadel and built by Allied Boat Company of Catskill New York. In 1972, Cape Dory Yachts of East Taunton Massachusetts began building the design as the Cape Dory 25, at a length of 24' 10". This boat should not to be confused with the Cape Dory 25D, a Carl Alberg design that Cape Dory began producing in 1982. The two boats have nothing in common other than their length.
The earliest Cape Dory 25s built in the early '70s were very similar to the Allied boat. They had a very open motor well and there was no bridge deck, instead a very large and deep companionway. The window arrangement consisted of alumimum framed windows, one very short one in the forward V berth and two mid-sized windows in the main cabin. The motor well was soon redisigned and the result was a much dryer cockpit. The newly designed well did a better job of keeping water out in large following seas and when backing the boat under power.
The 1975 boats got the new motor well. They had the open copanionway without a bridge deck. The aluminum framed windows remained.
Starting in 1976 a new window design was used. Instead of aluminum, the frames were now plastic and still did not open. The arrangement was one very long window in the main cabin, one short one in the head, and another short one in the forward V berth. The 1977 boats had the same window design and a bridge deck.
In addition to the bridge deck, the 1978 boats got bronze seat drains that allowed water on the seats to drain into the cockpit just above the scuppers. The window pattern was the same as the '76 and '77 boats. It was also during 1978 that the deck color was changed from blue to tan.
It was the 1979 Cape Dory 25 that finally got the long awaited bronze opening windows. With the bronze portholes, the CD-25 was complete. This is the design that was built until 1982. That is when production of the Cape Dory 25 came to an end after ten years and a total of 845 boats.
1982 marked the end of the Cape Dory 25 and the beginning of the Cape Dory 25D. The 25D was built until 1985.
If I missed any details please let me know.
