Sail Boston
Hi All,
The Sail Boston event is scheduled for next week. I will be heading down from Cape Ann with my CD 25 "Sovereign." Who else will be there, just so we'll know who to keep an eye out for?

Re: Sail Boston
We're at Marina Bay in Quincy full time. We'll be out on Sunday as the ships begin to arrive and on the hook on Tuesday for the parade. What are your plans?

Re: Sail Boston
I'm planning on heading down Monday, and dropping the hook for the night around Bumkin Island or Weir River. Then I'll move and drop the hook north of Spectical Isle for viewing Tuesday morning. I'll be on ch 9.

Re: Sail Boston
Jon,
We're leaving the marina at 5am and should be on the hook well before 6. I plan on anchoring in the same general area... between Spectacle and Castle Island. I monitor 16 and 9... and will probably be rowing the dinghy a bit before the parade starts.

With the normal southwesterly winds a better and closer place to anchor overnight would be in Portuguese Cove on the north side of Peddocks. You would save an hour of travel time getting over to Spectacle the following morning. The Bumpkin area can be fairly well exposed depending on wind direction. Depending upon wind direction, another spot to consider would be near the pier at Gallops. This would also be closer to Spectacle.

Ah Yes, the special anchorage... :-)
Ah Yes,
The Portuguese cove anchorage - right next to the "special anchorage for explosives."
Sort of reminds me of the time my freinds took me camping on Mt. Saint Hellens.

Re: Ah Yes, the special anchorage... :-)
The cove is probably the best anchorage in the whole Boston area and no one's been blown up yet. It's large, it's all mud and the water depth 20 feet off shore is still around 8 or 9 feet. Also, Peddocks island just opened to the Public last weekend for the first time in four years. My wife and I went ashore from the Cove on Tuesday. If you end up there you should check out the island.Jon :) wrote: The Portuguese cove anchorage:

Have you ever seen a ship anchored in the Explosives Anchorage? <g>
Yes, Peddocks is great! We like anchoring at Gallops, but the island is closed now, due to an asbestos hazard.
Are you out on Tuesday for the tall ships?

Sounds Great!
Gary,
The cove sounds great. I'll give it a try Monday night if there is room.
Much Thanks,
Jon
