Does the YSE12 engine in your CD have an air filter?
Ours has only a 1-1/2" pipe sucking engine room air.
Would appreciate thoughts on this.

YSE12 air filter
Dick,
Thanks for the reply.
Thought perhaps it was original.
I've been thinking of some kind of screen or filter to avoid swallowing unwanted itmes.
If I get clever I'll post a pic.
Thanks,
Andy

YSM8/12 are very similar except for the cylinder bore. I too was concerned about the "intake silencer" as it is called. That is about all it is, it is by far not any sort of air filter. Basically it is a metal canister with a perforated core. When I looked at mine it was pretty rusted in there and it did have some crud that fell off when touched. I decided to replace it with:
A K&N re-usable air filter. (Part No. RU-2850)
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=RU-2580
It works like a charm, about $20 from any auto parts store. Though they may have it order it for you. You can also purchase online.
It is smaller than the image, actual dimensions can be found on the webpage. No significant decrease in engine noise though! No problem with air flow as well. Just clamp it over the intake tube. I believe it even came with a stainless hose clamp. Super easy to install.
I had removed the intake pipe and cleaned it up a bit and repainted it inside and out with Pettit Trailer Coat. Trailercoat 6981 is a bright silver-color moisture-cured urethane coating that forms a moisture-proof barrier against rusting. The paint is tough, even to remove once dried from your hands.
Happy motoring.

YSE12 Air Filter
Ray,
Thanks for the info.
My NAPA guy, less than a mile away, has the K&N filter to fit my engine.
This board is great!
