CD33 - Routing an LPG hose from an on deck propane bottle
With our new Dickinson Caribbean stove/oven comes the installation of the associated propane gear and hose.
I've identified potential port and starboard routes for the hose but am wondering how Cape Dory routed their hoses for the "propane option" found on the newer CD's.
Does the ABYC allow for LPG hose to pass through a vented battery compartment?
Any insights, suggestions or photo's would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Rit

Yes, the hose can and does pass through the port lazarette on our CD32 (that's where the starting battery is). Our boat has a propane locker on the starboard side aft. The hose leaves the propane locker via a thru-bulkhead vapor-tight fitting. The hose then travels to the port side through the port lazarette (way up high above everything and out of the way) and forward to the galley which is on the port side. The hose is actually inside of another hose which protects it.
Hope this helps,
Cathy

The hose on my 33 runs the same way as was mentioned. The propane hose is sheved in a fire resistant hose.

Where is Propane Bottle Stored?
You CD33 owners who have a functional propane system, where is your bottle(s) stored? This is the problem with which I've been wrestling.
Thanks
Thanks

Deck storage
Frank,
I looked at all the potential places and decided to put it on the stern rail.

tanks stern rail
Mine also hang in a rack the stern rail. As a matter of fact, I put the rack back on today after a paint job.
Sure Marine
I have three vertical tanks on the stern rail that will last us for
at least two months when using our Force 10 heater as well as
our propane stove.
If you go to Sure Marine's website which is located near Seattle,
WA, you will see the holders that are made exclusively for them and the vertical tanks.
I also added two stanchions to beef up the stern rail as I also carry
our 3HP outboard on the rail.
If you need photos on what I did, let me know, and I will send
you some.

Hi Ken
Yes, I'm using Sure Marine and their set up.
How did you run your hoses?
What did you use for a deck penetrator?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Deck penetration
I have done a lot of work with Sure Marine, and they sure know what
to do and how to do it.
When I ordered my hose, they put on the unit that goes through the
deck that locks the hose in place. Only trouble with the one they installed is that I could not put the nut on the bottom of the device as the deck was too thick. 5200 took care of that situation.
As I was installing my new Force 10 propane heater on the forward
wall of the main cabin, I ran the hose behind the water tank, then below the ice box ( I installed a large Beckson plate to insulate the
ice box) then used the water line that I have abandoned to get to the
back of the boat. To make it easier I have also installed a Beckson
plate in the back of the boat so I can get to the wiring, air vents, etc.
Hope this helps!!

Rit,
I replaced all of my propane system but the hose about 6 years ago. The two ten pound aluminum tanks are in the starboard locker in a well drained to the counter stern. I installed a two stage wall regulator and new rubber pigtails etc. The old system in there was copper. The hose runs through the lazarette as Cathy mentions and when I checked it for chafe it was fine. It is inside another hose the entire way and padded additionally when it goes through bulkheads. I tried to check those areas for chafe but they are so snug.
Good luck.
