I have bought a CD 28 with a club footed jib. Has anyone any experience with the manouver of heaving to and backing the jib with the jib boom?
I've done this manouver many times with a conventional jib, but am wondering how you would keep the jib boom backed on the windward side after tacking.
My boat is not in the water yet so I can't practice this manouver, nor have I ever sailed a boat with a club footed jib.
Thanks

You have to lash it to windward, or it will tack over. Shouldn't be hard to find a way to do that, although a trip to the foredeck will be required.

Neil is right, but the easier way to do it is to lash the boom to leeward while you're beating, and then simply go about. You might want to make the lashing adjustable, perhaps a line coming back to the cockpit, so you can adjust the jib to windward for the best hove-to position.

Have had good success rigging ,(Temporary),separate sheets on a club footed jib when it breezes up. Once your hove to, you can control the sail better and you don't have to go forward except to shake out a reef.
