Bill,

Take a look at this site. It looks like what you want for $12. I can't tell if this a european site or canadian.

Duncan,

Are you sure about about the model number? Could it be a GPS 48. Their web site goes back quit a ways with software for discontinued models. I think my first was a GPS 12 and the software for it is still listed.

Hi Joe
I checked, and it's a 45, not a 48. There seems to have been a technology change between the models, but I did find a technical paper (from 1997!) which may offer some ideas.

Unofficial Garmin GPS FAQ (formerly Garmin GPS 45/40/38 FAQ)

Thanks for the tip!

This may offer some ideas once I study it more closely:

eBay

I bought a USB to Serial RS232 DB9 9 Pin Adapter f GPS Garmin NEW! on eBay for $7.95 and free shipping. Garmin's price is almost $60.00, plus shipping. I loaded the software on two of my computers and they both work with my Garmin GpsMap 76. Why does Garmin's price be so high?
