This post is to anyone equipped with a Westerbeke 10/2 engine.
Does yours require both batteries to be engaged in order to Start? Will either battery by itself start the engine? Mine requires both.
What AH batteries should be in place?
Thanks for any replies.

Westerbeke 10/2 start on 1 battery?

Re: Westerbeke 10/2 start on 1 battery?
Dennis,
I own a 10-2 and it starts on one battery with no problem. When I get to the boat I'll check the batteries for size. What are the symptoms? Slow cranking speed? Are your glow plugs working properly? How long do you need to crank the engine in order for it to start? Are you certain the batteries are completly charged? Sorry, so many questions, so little time.
Best wishes,
Lee

Re: Westerbeke 10/2 start on 1 battery?
Dennis,
I had a similar problem with Parfait: two battery banks in parallel or no starting, just cranking. Our total capacity is about 425 AH of wet cells and most of that is 9 years old. It is amazing how little oxide it takes to reduce current flow. Check out those battery cables for dark gray matter at the connections. Make them bright and shiny; then try starting the engine on one battery. That is all it took on Parfait to get the Perkins 4-108 cranking like it should. Sealing those connections from the atmosphere and battery byproducts with an appropriate grease will keep them happy longer.
Good luck!
