Has anyone had an update on fred? Seems like he's been in Samoa a long time.

I heard from Fred back in mid December from American Samoa, he was having engine problems and looking at his alternatives. He may still be there sorting out a rebuild. check cruisers corner, he usually posts there.

Hi all,

The engine fiasco has finally resulted in my purchasing another engine. It should arrive by ship this Wed. Then I have to retrieve and install the engine. So I figure another two~three weeks here.

This past weekend hurricane Wilma brushed past AS. Saturday and Sunday were filled with wind and lots of rain. Wilma registered 90k winds. In the harbor here I would guess we were getting 70k in the gusts.

All is well with Sunshine. She is tied up in the small marina area here in the harbor. The chop was so bad Sat nite that I slept on the sette 'cause the stern of the boat was bouncing up and down 2~3'.

One small 11mtr fishing boat was sunk just across from me by the 4~5' wind waves. Another one broke loose outside the marina and drifted west deeper into the harbor. A big gust caught it and it flipped over and partially sank. It has been retrieved and righted.

Another sailboat outside in the harbor snapped his lines to a mooring and had to move to the customs dock. Another boat on a good mooring had a near collision with a big old cargo boat derelict when the ship mooring it was attached to started to drag.

The haror partol had the nerve to tell the cruisers that they drug onto the ship. How they could drag upwind 150 yards during a hurricane is beyond me.

They waited for the eye to pass over and disconnected from their mooring and also relocated to the customs dock.

No damage to any cruisers fortunately. Today, Monday, it is still raining, sometimes quite heavily. Another depresion is forming to the NW so a good chance of more rain for the next couple of days at least.

I still plan to head to the Marshalls and then to the Philippines...
if I CAN EVER GET OUT OF HERE.

Hi all,

Well my engine finally arrived...only a week late. The shipper put it in the wrong container so it went to Apia, Western Samoa by mistake. Fortunately there is a weekly ferry 'tween here and there.

It was Friday afternoon by the time I got it clear of the port. No customs fees, just paperwork.

It is now installed and had its first test run today(Thursday 2/10).

Now I can finally get going again. Should be out of here by about the 21st, FEB. As per plan heading to Majuro then Cebu.

Should you get to the island of Woja in the Ailinglaplap atoll in the Marshalls, will you take a bunch of pictures for me? I spent a year there back in 94 and would love to see the place again.
