Sunday 11/14 Easy Rider and crew launched from Currie Park in West Palm Beach with Peanut Island as our destination. Winds out of the NW made for a perfect day on the water. Used the Navionics iPhone app to track our route which can be seen by CLICKING HERE.
Navionics stats claim we hit 3.9 knots but two different GPS units showed us scooting along near or above 5 knots at various times. However, Navionics did not mention the soft grounding on the north side of the island so we'll call it even...
This is a nice day sail as you must tack or gibe several times across Lake Worth and negotiate the large mooring field, ICW and Palm Beach Inlet traffic. Not too difficult but enough to keep you heads up. Next time we'll dock at the island and explore the JFK Bunker, walking trails and snorkeling lagoon. Unless the wind is blowing and the ocean is flat! Then we'll head offshore for a while!
FYI - Currie Park is FREE to launch and park Sunrise to Sunset. Park is right on Flagler Drive. Ramps were awesome. The boat floated off and on the Triad before my front tires got to the ramp. Launched at low tide and retrieved near high tide with no issues. But be a good sailor and have tip money on hand for the homeless who are anxious to assist your launch and retrieval like our new friend Dusty.
