Realization's new mainsail cover....
I purchased a kit from Sailrite but used the old mainsail cover as a pattern for the new. I made the new one slightly longer so it covers more of the boom, and slightly wider to make it easier to close it up along its foot.

Main sail cover
Hi Cathy, Your new sail cover looks great. Love the traditional dark brown color. Do you have a Sailrite or similar brand heavy duty machine? Les S/V Nutmeg

Re: Main sail cover
Nope, I just used my good old trusty dressmaker's machine, an old Singer from the 1970s. I used it to sew the leather patches on the dodger as well (for the new grab rails -- new in 2008). Not only did it make it through the leather, it also made it through the several layers of sunbrella right at the seam and the vinyl window material.lhyde wrote:Hi Cathy, Your new sail cover looks great. new sail cover
Hi Cathy, You are an inspiration. We have new sails for 2010, but kept our old sail cover. We will need a new main sail cover soon and i may try my hand at making it. Did you get the brass fastenings form Sailrite as part of the kit? I like your new Dodger, too. We need a new dodger this year. Les

Great job. Looks entirely professional. Bet it cost less than the one we had made last month. Wish I had given it a try. Oh well-next one.
