Magnetic shoes

Post by river-rat »

I had a problem with my tiller pilot going bonkers when headed for the dock under power while furling the main. Standing on the cockpit seats close to the tiller pilot was the problem. Changing shoes was the solution.

I was well aware of the problem of magnetic eye glass frames interfering with a hand bearing compass. I used to take a hand bearing compass along when getting new glasses. Now I may need one when getting new deck shoes!

Interesting.

Thanks for this post! I completely forgot that my glasses have magnets on them for holding on the sunshades that came with them. I lost the sunshades long ago.

When I hold up my hand bearing compass the two magnets are less than an inch away from it. That explains alot.... :)

Cheers!
