East Coast Cape Dory enthusiast looking to buy sound, cutter rigged (i.e. standard) CD 36, preferably with low or moderate engine hours, exterior brightwork cosmetic condition not vital, roller furler on genoa would be nice. Also, they are not CD36s but there's a really nice CD330 for sale in Perth Amboy, NJ and another one on the Chesapeake in VA. They are posted for sale right here on this web site.

You don't seriously want a 36 that would prompt others to conclude your "exterior brightwork cosmetic condition not vital"!!

Come look at the boat and see for yourself. She really has been pampered, and is reasonably priced.

Just curious, why not a 330? Seems quite similar to a 36.

You're right, however while I like the 330's cutter rig and the cockpit coamings, and the varnished interior, I find that the saloon berths seem to be both shorter and skinnier than those on both the 33 and the 36. I understand the 330's berths were pushed slightly further out towards the boat's sides to make the cabin feel a little larger(wider), however the settee backrests no longer fold up when the settees are being used as berths, and so the 330 lacks the extra room between the settee backs and the hull side.

I also believe the berths are a little shorter as a result of the head bulkhead being moved slightly aft to make a shower stall and enclose the mast in the head. I'm about 6 feet and I find the 330's berths just a little short whereas they fit well on the 33. Also, the 330 lacks the 33 and the 36's quarter berth and proper nav seat and table, which I prefer.

It's a pity because I've seen some georgeous 330's but I can't bring myself to buy a boat where the two most practical berths are not quite big enough.

Does that make sense to you? What do you think?

Have you considered a CD-40? There is a very nice one in Kemah, Texas. Well equipped also.
