looking for owners interested in getting curved portholes ca

Post by mike ritenour »

I am looking for CD owners who are interested in getting in on an order for portholes (either opening or fixed), built along the same quality lines as the Spartan portholes, but with a slight curve for installation in the forward bulkhead of the doghouse, just above the vee-berth. I'm looking at casting portholes for the CD 30,33, 330 and the 36.

This porthole will allow you to look forward without leaving the cabin and check on your roller furling, anchor and other bow items.

I've found a Canadian casting firm who is willing to do the deed, but of course one offs are VERY expensive and casting more than one will lower everyone's cost. This is a non-profit venture, cost only applies.

BTW, If you know of any mfg. who already makes these portholes, please let me know.

This email address will close by the 18th of June, please respond to:
"mpr@seascan.com" after that.

Thanks in advance,
Mike Ritenour

You might try Bristol Bronze www.bristolbronze.com . They offered to cast a Ty port for me, and it wasn't too expensive. A curved port might be another matter.

In the end a fellow Ty owner pointed me to an off-the-shelf port that fits the Typhoon, so I didn't need the custom one.

Regards,
Richard.

I would be interested if the price were right, AND, it was engineered to avoid the problems I experienced with my last boat. The opening porthole was great for circulation and visibility and all, BUT, the sucker collected water along the bottom portion because it wasn't designed to drain at the angle it was installed. Although I occasionally effected the 'perfect' seal, the messing around over time was not worth the benefits.

Mike,

There's also a company called New Found Metals that makes bronze ports. If they don't already have what you're looking for maybe they could make it.
