Richmond, CA wants to assess my 1981 CD28 at $20,000 for tax purposes. I am not interested in selling and have not checked prices recently. Does anyone have an idea what the boat is worth (it is in good condition, but not fancy)in northern CA?

If they assess at 100% of value, then their in the range. Depending on condition and goodies, low 20's seems to be the fair price these days.

The web page: (http://www.nada.com) will give you a high, average, and low value for your boat.

Re: CD28 Value
I paid heck of a lot more for my 28 CD than that, but it came with about $30,000 worth of new equipment: Frig system, radar, five batteries, two Autohelms, new sails, new canvas, new windless with 300 feet of high tensil chain, microwave, invertor, TV and Bose speakers, etc. etc.
What you get is what you got!! (See you in the water in the San Juans, and I do have ice for your martinis!)

This is a tax appraisal... you're not supposed to send in a list of all the extra stuff. <G>
I agree that average value means the average boat, in average condition and with average equipment. Especially with extra goodies, new sails and electronics, etc., a boat can be worth a lot more.
