This year's pre-Maine Cruise float-in takes place on Sunday, August 8th, in Carver Cove, Vinalhaven.

Carver Cove, not to be confused with Carver's Harbor, is located at the eastern end of Fox Islands Thorofare south of Widow Island, making into Calderwood Neck on Vinalhaven Island's northeast shore. It is easy to enter and provides good protection under normal summer conditions. It is the prettiest of the several large coves along the Thorofare, and a convenient stop if you are coming in late at night from the east. Even if the wind is blowing a gale from the southwest, you can spend a comfortable night here.

In the evening we'll all gather on one or two of the boats for cocktails. Bring one or two snack items to share with the rest of the group and the fixin's for your favorite beverage. Then it's potluck for dinner. Whatever you bring is what we'll have, so bring enough to share.

while at Wooden Boat/Great Cove

Post by greg phillips »

I'm a former CD25 owner and fan of all things CD, especially this forum. If anyone wants to trek to Brooklin while in Great Cove(WoodenBoat students make the walk daily) you'll find the Brooklin General Store, Center Harbor Sail Loft and two new stores at Brooklin Corner. One, The Cave, has fresh locally baked bread, a great wine selection and other gourmet goods. The other my wife owns and I'll not promote it here other than give the website.
Should anyone need a ride just look tired, if I can help anyone while in the area, please give a call. I have a mooring in Center Harbor and might be able to find an empty one for a night or two.I feel as though I owe a great debt to your group.
