***1979 Cape Dory Ketch 30' For Sale***

Post by vpolidoro »

1979 Cape Dory Ketch for sale. 30'. Volvo Diesel Engine. Located in New Hamburg, NY (Dutchess County). Boat is in sailing condition but could use some TLC. Asking $12,000, but price is negotiable.

My Grandpa loves the boat but can no longer take care of it. Looking for a new owner that appreciates classic boats.

i've seen this boat

Post by jackc »

I recently looked at ths boat out for a friend. this is a 31 yr old raw water cooled boat. there is a water line 5-6 inches above the settee floor. neither the manual or electric bilge pump worked. there is a soft spot on the starboard side extending from the area of midship chainplates to the bow and it is extremely soft. as i remember the cockpit sole is soft. the area below the midship chain plates , is rust colored. it is one of those musty, cluttered boats that is difficult to examine. there is no holding tank, it is plumbed directly overboard, not exactly legal. i was told it had not been covered the last 2 years. with a lot of time, money and elbow grease this boat might be recovered but in this market there are lots of other boats out there for less money and work. i advised against it.

Thanks Jack. At the price, one is tempted. With your comments, one is warned!

The price is low because it needs some work. I have been advised that the pumps do work.

The $12,000 asking price is commensurate with the boat's condition. The seller even points out that it needs TLC. So if you're looking for a fixer-upper, it's worth looking at, judge for yourself, then make a decision. You'll pay double for a CD30 in good condition.

A 1979 CD30 in good shape could fetch between $20,000 and $25,000. Right now, for example, YachtWorld has a 1980 CD30C listed at $29,000 (Chestertown, MD); 1977 CD30C for $19,000 (South Portland, ME); 1976 CD30K for $24,000 (Punta Gorda, FL); 1977 CD30K for $32,000 (Groton, CT); 1977 CD30K for $15,900 (Wilmington, NC); 1977 CD30K for $22,000 (Palatka, FL).
