A Day on the Lake

Post by Bruce Ebling »

With the weather in the high 70's here in Oregon we decided to take Selah out on the lake. A wonderful steady northwind allowed us to put the spinnaker up for a downwind run to the south end of the lake to watch the Grebes.

<a href="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/ ... G_0393.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/ ... 3.jpg"></a>

Once we reached a quiet spot we sat down to a meal of grapes and fried chicken, there were birds all around and on the way in we also passed a bald eagle.

<a href="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/ ... G_0405.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/ ... 5.jpg"></a>

After dinner I decided to explore the channel a little further (big mistake) shortly thereafter we were in 6' of water and hung up on a submerged tree.
It took over an hour of rocking the boat and finally swimming the anchor out behind the boat and kedging off the tree.

By then it was getting dark so we motored several miles back to the dock. Just after putting the boat away a incredible orange moon rose over the east hills, it was quite and sight and it finished off an exciting day on the lake.

Hello Bruce:

Great photos :!: That spinnaker looks really nice :!:

Someday, when (not if) my search is successful, I hope to be able to enjoy fried chicken and grapes as well in the cockpit of my own Cape Dory 25D.

Thanks for the post. The photos give me encouragement and added incentive. :)
Fair winds,

Robert

table in cockpit

Post by Dick Barthel »

Hi Bruce,

That's for sharing that wonderful day with us.

That looks like the cabin table you're using in the cockpit. How have you secured it?

The food looks delicious!

Cockpit Table

Post by Bruce Ebling »

Dick: If you do a search on my posts you will find a thread started by "pcschultz" (page 3). I bought a Garelick post and table assembly. I have been very happy with it and now enjoy those summer meals outside! The stock Cape dory post is too tall so I used the Garelick post. As I remember the entire kit was around $80. You just need to install the adapter plate on the cockpit sole then the Garelick base plate locks onto the plate.

Table Installation

Post by barfwinkle »

Good Morning Bruce

I too have ordered the table, however I have a question or two.

Did you have to cut the stanchion to length? and if so, did that mess up the taper on one end?

What size screw did you use to mount the deck plate?

Anything that you wish you had done differently?

TIA and Fair Winds
