Cockpit control Sailboat (Electrical)

I just bought my first 25' 1978 Cape Dory. She is powered by a 1983 7.5 Mercury OB. On the back side of of the cockpit controls there is a relay switch that plugs into the unit. It has eight male prongs on it, four prongs on each side. Overall size is about 1" *1.5" clear plasic with a black base. Looking in my owners manual I see an item called a switch box and a rectifier. If anybody has had to replace one of these could you help me out. Also I am not sure which one I need. I tried the merc dealer, but they have no idea what I am talking about.
