Trash in CD25 Cockpit....

For a lighter topic....

Sea Owl is finally going back in tomorrow. Among things I have mulled over is how to handle trash while underway.

What I have done the last two seasons is to tuck a small plastic bag into the rear port quarter of the cockpit, held in place by the throttle cables going to my outboard (I have a throttle control like you might see on a power boat - a lever that controls the transmission/throttle, and key for the electric start)

Was wondering what innovative ideas other CD 25 Owners have come up with to handle the odd plastic wrappers from snacks, empty water bottles, etc than can accrue during a long day sailing that are convenient to use, but 'out of the way'.

... we have a multi-pronged strategy:

1) a wastebasket behind the head (thanks Carl!). I discourage this use since I often forget to empty it and the volume is small. Don't put anything decayable there! It is convenient and understandable for child-generated waste, like granola bar wrappers.

2) a bag in a 12-pk box under the sink. This often outlasts the 12pk.

3) for longer trips, a plastic bag in the starboard cockpit locker, often tucked inside the 2.5 gal bucket to catch any leaks.

Request, No, DEMAND, that all cans be properly squished... if the can is still taller than 1", keel haul the culprit!
Also, plastic bottles can be squished to within 2 or 3" jigh, IF you remove the cap, roll them really tight and then recap them.

Yeah, we got experience in both drinkin' and squishin'!
