Bilge Pumps on CD-25

Post by Jon »

Hi All,

I've been thinking about relocating the bilge pump discharge on my CD25. Has anyone tried putting the discharge outlet into the motor well below the fuel tank shelves? The water would then fall out the motor well. This may provide a way to discharge without disrupting the asthetics of the topsides with a fitting (my asthetics are severly compromised in this regard). Any experiences?

Jon,
We just got our 25, I wrote and asked about the thru-hull. Our bilge pump discharges at the far aft end of the starboard cockpit locker. The thru-hull points almost straight down and is all but invisible unless you are in the water.

Jon:

I took the plug out of the inspection hole aft of the motor and ran the bilge pump exit line out that way. On my short list of things to do is to drill a hole in the plug so that it can be replaced. The inspection hole shoule be sealed. I have heard that in large following seas water can rise high enough to enter there. I do not want any more holes in the hull than absolutely necessary.

My CD25 has a Whale-type manual pump installed under
the cockpit seat.
It discharges into the motor well about 5" _above_ the
starboard side shelf. This gives my OB
gas tank a good washdown, but I don't have any problem with
that; the lazarette isn't particularly dry to begin with.
