After many years of dreaming, I finally purchased my new boat, a 1983 CD31. Myself and 2 friends picked up Balenena in Branford Connecticut and after 25 hours, including my first night sail we arrived in Brooklyn, NY. I love the boat and hope to have many years of enjoyment with her. Your advice i always welcome. Thanks,
Michael Davis

Congratulations on your new acquisition.

Seriously, check the Northeast Fleet calendar and join in where/when you can.

Welcome Aboard
Hi Mike,
Welcome to you and Balenena to the Cape Dory board.
I noticed that you will be keeping her in Brooklyn, NY. I wonder if, by any chance, at Sheepshead Bay. I sailed in and out of there and Jones Inlet many a time.
I wonder if McGinnis restaurant, world famous for its roast beef, is still in Sheepshead? Like all good things, probably torn down to make highrises. Same way for Lundy's restaurant. Excellent for steaks and seafood. Last time I was there was in the 1950s.
Well, again, welcome board.

Sheepshead Bay
What a vital and interesting neighborhood.......last oct. on the 1st leg of a sail to Fl. we ran into some weather and stayed at Sheepshead Bay Yacht Club for a couple of days. The members there literally ran down to the dock from their clubhouse to welcome us, bought us drinks from their bar and couldn't have been friendlier. Terrific assortment of ethnic restaurants nearby. We had a great time there

Lundy's
Hey John,
Sadly Lundy's is history, but the building is still there and has been filled with an amazing Russian supermarket called Cherry Hill. They have miles of display cases full of reasonably priced prepared foods like Chicken Kiev, stuffed cabbage, all sorts of pirogi type dumplings, an amazing variety of vegetable dishes, great country style breads, Russian style cheeses, and deli. They even have a small restaurant cafe on the premises and serve black tea in glasses with chunks of beet sugar on a little saucer.
Its a great place to stock up.

Michael,
Good purchase. I think the C31 is the best of the CD line, but I am a little biased. She is a good boat and as with all Cape Dories if you treat her well she will get you home.
Fair Winds,
Thomas

I'd have to wholeheartedly agree with Thomas. It's a lot of classic sailboat in a manageable package. Hope you have as much fun as I have. Jim.
