Anchor size for CD26

Post by John K. »

I need to purchase a new anchor for my 1985 CD26. The original was unshackled and stolen right off the bow of my boat! Do any of you 26 owners know the size of the factory-original CQR anchor supplied with the boat?

Thanks
Tom

According to Denton Rickey Moore the rule of thumb for burying type anchors such as the CQR is one pound of anchor for one foot of boat length, i.e., 25 lb CQR should be right for serious anchoring. Moore wrote the book "Gentlemen Never Sail to Weather", sailed around the world in 1980 something and rode out a 150 knot hurricane in Tahiti.

John,

No anchor was supplied with the boat. I added a teak anchor stock pad with securing shackle for my CQR plus the chain pipe. I had started with a CQR20 but it proved too small in veering T-Storm winds for some types of bottoms (Block Island loose shale and sand mix). Switch to CQR25...much better and it is the largest CQR it can take with that roller to clear the flukes. Matched with at least 1 boat length of 5/16 or 3/8 chain, it will hold most adverse conditions. I use a lanyard from the anchor crown eye to the port chock line securing pin to "hold" the anchor fluke from the side of the boat in a seaway....

There was no anchor supplied with the boat. I carried a 25# CQR with thirty feet of chain and 150 feet of 1/2" three strand. I also carried a 10# danforth with 6 feet of chain and 150 feet of 1/2" three strand, but rarely had to use it.......
