YIKES...... CD27 for sale in Mass
This sounds like a unique CD27 and the asking price makes me wonder just how much TLC is really needed.
If anyone give it a look, let us all know why it is sooooo cheap.

27 foot 1976 #1 Hull Cape Dory; (only one with 4 portholes made that year) new sails, 2 cyl. Yanmar inboard diesel engine; runs great. Needs cosmetic, interior TLC but all the parts are here. Full galley & head. Shrink wrapped for winter. If you have always wanted one of these beauties but have never been able to afford one, here is your chance. I little bit of time and love and you are in business. $3500 or best offer. Call Steve 774-722-3854

AAaahhh!
Ron, you're killing me. I'm just starting a new restoration project and now you throw my dream boat restoration in my lap. Talk me down now before I jump. Exactly how many boats can you fit in your driveway before the City taxes you as a marina?

Come on Carl........
Never too many sailboats for you DYS types! Just wonder how bad/good a CD27 with a good engine can be for only $3500? Thats less than what I can sell my Typhoon for. I have sized down into condo living and hardly have storage room for our clothing and offsite storage for my Typhoon. So, it's up to someone else to restore my dream boat. Go for it!
Since you sold your CD25, didn't you move up to a CD28? Is that the project now or have you gone LARGER ? Obviously, if you have no more driveway room for another Cape Dory.........then you need a larger driveway.

cd 27 #1
Seems I recall HIN #1 coming on the market awhile back - even some pic's surfaced. ( caught my eye as it has 4 portholes )
Wow - what a mechanic's special. Needed much work back then .
For someone with much ambition and little scratch it would have been a deal but only for someone able and prepared for much elbow grease - back then.
Suspect the new(er) owner has done some of the work but run out of steam ? ? ?

DYI, and then some
I know this boat fairly well as it was offered to me years ago for the cost of trucking it to my yard,.......about 150.00 at that time. I didn't have the time nor inclination.
I don't know what the present owner has done since but the boat was in terrible shape and needed much work.
Cockpit sole needed replacement, water intrusion in the core various places. Sails in tough shape, engine suspect, etc. etc. Just to mention a few problems I can recall.
It's a shame it's gotten to this state of disrepair as it is unique.
I truely hope someone has the grace to save it from the chainsaw.

HHMMmmmm
Hull de-lamination was not on your list. None of that other stuff scares me. I'm seriously thinking about taking a road trip to Eastham on Saturday, just to put this nagging temptation to bed. Hey, there are worse afflictions than a compulsion to restore boats.

This story reminds me of when I first started looking for CD28... The ad that caught my eye was for hull #1 in Jacksonville at what "seemed" a great price. However, some research, right here in the archives, revealed that it needed a massive restoration/rebuild! Not something that I was either interested in or could afford to do. A few years before that, I saw a "trailer for sale with free Typhoon" in the Atlanta paper. Went and looked and thing seemed not too bad until I started leaning against the hull... terrible de-lamination and very spongy. The seller said it was just because the boat wasn't in the water and "they all do that"... obviously either a crook or moron.
While I'm far from the best at keeping a boat Bristol, it always breaks my heart to see a fine sailboat allowed to disintegrate...

Not intimidated by the work needed.......just being practical.
At the time I had almost completed restoring my CD30 and didn't need any additional projects, I wanted to sail.
I wish you luck and it would be terrific if you decide to take this on.
Keep us appraised with your findings.

Level Heads Prevail
In the light of a new day, level heads prevail. I have three kids heading to college. It would be financially irresponsible for me to start putting serious amounts of money into a boat at this time. The labor isn't the issue. I could easily see sinking $20K in materials into this boat, just at the time my first heads off to college.
