Head hose replacement...getting the old stuff out!!!

Post by D. Stump, Hanalei »

I want to replace the head hose in Hanalei, a CD-30 cutter with the holding tank under and just in front of the engine. There is flexible hose from the head (about 2 feet) to a solid PVC pipe running through the cabin to a flexible hose at the aft end of the main cabin settee, then more flexible hose (about 5 feet) from the PVC pipe to the inlet to the holding tank(this piece runs under the galley sink area and under the stove area.

The problem is the 5 foot piece running under the stove area. I can't budge it! The question is, "Has anyone replaced this hose, and if so, how did you get it out from under the stove?" Also, "Was the hose attached to something under the stove area, ie. ty-wrapped or something, and how did you break it free?"

Any comments or assistance would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

Hey Dave, Did you ever figure out the source of your coolant leak?

two loose hose clamps on the newly installed hot water heater. I had gotten two steel hose clamps by mistake, they rusted, loosened, and were slowly leaking coolant. We didn't notice the loss of coolant last summer as we don't run the engine very long at one time, maybe 1/2 hour at most to get in and out of the slip. Anyhow, 2 new clamps and all is well. Thanks for asking....

Dave:

I tugged on mine for a day, trying to pull it thru the tie wraps that they used to secure it in place. Finally, gave up and put an inspection port in the middle of the board under the stove. That way all you have to do is swing the oven bottom back out of the way and you have access to the three hoses that run thru that "box." You can cut the old ties and screw in the new ones.

The three hoses are: head hose, water tank vent, water feed to valve cluster.

Makes a good place to hide stuff too.

Jay,
Thanks for your reply. I thought it was something like ty-wraps in there, but of course ya can't see them. I'm going to do one of two things, 1st. I'll make a long thin cutter and see if I can pop the ty-wraps from either side of the stove, or, 2nd. I'll enlarge the hole with a sabre saw so I can get in there with something else to pop the wraps. I don't really want to cut an inspection port, but will if all else fails. Again, thanks for your reply, I had almost given up hope!!!!

Fair winds....
