Curious, reference to the Ty problems pertaining to cracked gel coat, sagging coach roofs, support posts under the mast, deck cracks at chain plates, ect, continue to appear on this bulletin board. I have A 69 Ty,hull # 27,built and designed to accept the mast through the coach roof, with the mast stepped on the cross section between the port, and starboard bunks directly behind what was the head, now removed. In reading the postings i have seen no reference to such a set up. Nor in my wanderings poking around in boat yards have i found one built this way.I should also mention that there dose not seem to be any of the common problems afore mentioned... Looking forward to a spring launching after a 18 month restoration, and my first sail in a Ty, this sail plan and stepped mast is still of some curiosity to me,and concern. I somehow can't imagine phisically lifting the mast, doing a balancing act, positioning it over the cabin masthole and lowering it down to the mast step.(I could sell tickets to the whole event, and hope to break even on the yard bill)..I thought of setting up the mast on the coach roof, tabernacle mounted as i have seen on other Ty's. Then into the equation comes the mast. Do I cut off the 28" that went from the coach roof to the cabin mast step? or do I lower the boom, replace the stays,(which are now to short)and buy new sails(which are now to small)This will give me extra square footage(the mast bieing 28" taller)and make me the fastest Ty on the eastern seaboard

O! yes, then I have to throw in that complicated formula about ratios, sail balance, and all that good stuf,or maybe just forget the whole "America Cup " idea and go rent me a crane. Still, if there are any Ty owners out there with the mast stepped through to the mid bunk section ,or modified, I would appreciate some input just for the hell of it. All replies serious or not, will be given due consideration.
