Garmin GPSMap 76 with charts
I will preload charts of either the Chesapeake or Northern Maine (The memory won't hold both). Includes the Ram Mount cradle specific to the GPS 76 series handhelds, and the power / data cord, cover and any other accessories that I might have specific to the unit. Asking $150 plus shipping.
Will throw in the Blue Chart discs for the Chesapeake and Northern Maine with the unlock codes but can't guarantee it will work on your system. The unit is on the boat up in Maine right now and I'm in Philly but will be heading up to check on things in the next week or two and will then have the unit.

Hi Joe. Out of curiousity, why are you selling it? Are there particular shortcomings that you couldn't accept? I've been considering getting one of these units (one of several I'm considering, actually), and would appreciate any feedback you have. I'd also like to know when you bought it, if it's still under warranty, etc.
If you care to respond, I suppose you could send me a PM... I've never done that before on this board, but should be able to figure it out if you do. Thanks.

Just have not been using it. This was my primary GPS when I was chartering frequently before I purchased Quest. I liked having my own and not needing to enter waypoints on some unfamilar equipment. It also gave me something sailing related to do in the winter (entering waypoints and routes). The year after I bought Quest I installed a fixed mount Garmin 3006c chartplotter. I use a Garmin 478 in the car and as a backup on board the boat so I don't need it.

Since you're shopping now, I can say with confidence that you would not be disappointed with the GPSMap 76 series. I have the GPSMap 76CX. The C stands for "color" and the X stands for expandable memory. I can also say that Joe is asking a very modest price for the package he has. I almost wish I didn't already have one so I could buy his.

Garmin 76
This may or may not be relevant to this discussion, but I just got my hard copy (real paper, not email) of the March Practical Sailor and they are reporting that Garmin is no longer updating the CD Rom charts for the Garmin 76. This only applies to those products that do not accept data cards. I don't know if this applies to the Garmin 76s that were being discussed in this thread or not, but thought you folks might be interested.
Sometimes your vessel's becalmed for days and weeks on end,
Sometimes the winds of life will blow you off your course, my friend,
But the wind is sure to veer, you must stay aboard and steer,
And long may your big jib draw!

Their website indicates that the CD's are being discontinued but they are still for sale as of today. That is why I was selling the unit pre-loaded with CD's that I had. Given the expense of updating charts, I only upgrade charts if it is really, really necessary. I have only done it once on my GPS Map 3006 (that was to get the harbor pix that were available on the new versions of BlueChart visions) and never on the GPS Map 478.
Up in Maine the rocks and islands don't move around too often and I assume that the bouys may not be where they were a few years back. When I really need to be precise about where I'm at I just break out the sextant.
