25D Boom Vang

Has anyone installed a boom vang on a CD 25D? If so, with what kind of fitting did you connect it to the mast? Also, what is the proper angle from mast to boom?

Hello Ray

I installed one last spring. I got the mast bail from Rigrite and didnt like the quaility of their boom bail, (nor their service for that matter) so I ordered the boom bail from west marine. I can get the numbers for you when I go to the boat. Maybe someone will pitch in before then.

i also have an instruction sheet from Spartan Spars which gives the measurements for placement of the bails on both the boom & Mast. Others have it and mine is also on the boat so I guess it will be a matter of who comes up with it first. Regarding teh placement of the mast bail, I followed the instructions and it looks to me to be too high on the mast. If I had to do it again, I would shorten the distance by about 1/2.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Ray;
I am just installing a vang now. I can't give you the exact boom layout but I am using Schaeffer Stainless bails through bolted on both boom and mast. The angle from mast base to boom should be close to 40-45%. I am installing the mast bail about 1" above the mast step.
One other option if your mast is unstepped is to install a through bolted mast eye by removing the mast step fitting. The key here is to install something as close to the deck as possible.
